How to install a long range WiFi outdoor antenna to connect up to 3 kilometers away and repeat inside home with a neutral router
In this practical case we will configure a long-range antenna with 14DBI and 300Mbps of download speed to establish a connection 3 km away and to have Internet at home with a neutral router. The model we have chosen is the CPE Melon 801 antenna which has a planar antenna or long range 14dbi panel, waterproof for outdoor and also powered by LAN network cable with PoE.
The CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) is a very versatile device because it can work interchangeably like router, AP access point, repeater or WiFi client. The choice of this WiFi CPE antenna model instead of a powerful USB antenna, has been done because it is about installing it on the roof in a tower located about 20 meters from the floor, where a conventional USB antenna does not arrive. When we want to reach a distance as long as 3km the location of the antenna is very important, it is obligatory that there is direct vision and that this at the same height as the transmitter WiFi and directed facing the other antenna.
In this case it is about sharing the Internet from a family home that is in a building 3km of the same height as ours and without barriers along the way. All we need is 2 CPE Melon 801 and a neutral router. The first CPE is placed on the roof of the family house that will emit the WiFi signal. The CPE will be set as repeater mode and the other in the building that will be configured as Client station mode (STA).
The CPE N801 is an ideal WiFi antenna to install on the roof as all circuits and antenna are integrated into a completely waterproof ABS plastic box and can be powered by an RJ45 network cable of 20 meters or more. The advantage of this cable is that at the same time you connect to the router that has Internet by the LAN port to transmit the signal from the router to the antenna, it also makes of electric feeder by means of the PoE system allowing the antenna to work on the roof fed of SDE the router.

1.-Connect the CPE Melon as a WiFi transmitter, reboot mode
The first step is to locate a LAN output of the router that has Internet in the house that we want to share. The Poe adapter plug is connected to the power supply and a cable from the router’s LAN output to the WAN input of the Poe socket. Then a cable is pulled as long as we need to the roof and connected from the WAN output of the PoE plug to the WAN input of the N801 antenna. 2.-Connect the CPE Melon as a receiver. Station or client mode.

In the case of each CPE Melon N801 is supplied with a POE device unit (Powerline Over Ethernet), this electric plug with WAN and LAN output is used to give power and network connection to the external antenna. To set up the antenna, connect the POE to a mains plug and a cable to the antenna and another to a computer. From the configuration interface of the CPE we choose the mode of use and we can write the password of the WiFi network to which we are going to connect. After saving the settings whenever you let’s light it will start working with that configured network.
3-How to configure the CPE Melon N801
To configure the external long-range CPE Melon N801 antenna, follow a few simple steps detailed in the manual. Once connected to the POE, and connected to a computer via LAN cable, we entered the Web browser and with the Web address http://10.10.10.254 we went to the configuration page and to configure the receiver WiFi we chose the client mode WiFi or Station (STA). Once configured we will have an Ethernet cable receiving the external WiFi connection. Then we can connect that cable to the neutral router to distribute it all over the house.
This long-range dual-polarization 14dbi antenna is capable of connecting to remote WiFi networks up to 3km with very good signal quality received, and also transmits to 300Mbps.
A CPE of these features has several modes of operation: AP/client/Repeater/AP Router/AP Client/Router (WISP). This means that you can use the antenna to connect two point-to-point antennas, to emit as WiFi hotspot access point, to bring the WiFi signal to another point, as a WiFi repeater from another router etc.
4-How a neutral router works to repeat the Internet.
When we want to install a WiFi router that distribute the signal throughout the house we need a neutral router, which is the one that cannot be connected directly to a line of ADSL or optical fiber, since it does not have built-in modem. To give the Internet to these router need to connect by WAN cable to a repeater or switch that has Internet. The neutral routers only work within an Ethernet network already established, as is the case of Launa antenna WiFi receiver by USB or a CPE.
